DANBURY, CT (WFSB) -

A woman who was the passenger of a stolen car that was involved in a police chase died on Sunday.

Connecticut State Police said Tiffany Fitzgerald, of Danbury, died following injuries sustained in the crash that happened last Thursday morning.

An officer was working a roadside construction assignment in the area of Main and Center Streets around 10:40 a.m. when police said he saw a 1997 Ford Explorer he knew to be stolen.

Police said the officer followed the vehicle in his own personal vehicle after calling it in to dispatchers. Police said that unidentified officer attempted to stop the vehicle.

However, the driver fled the area, according to police.

Police said the driver of the Explorer, 32-year-old Ricardo Andre, of Danbury, headed south on Mountainville Road and misjudged a left turn near the intersection of Mountain Road.

Police said Andre hit a state traffic commission sign, a utility pole support cable and the utility pole itself.

The stolen vehicle went off the road, which caused it to roll over onto the grass of a nearby property.

Both Andre and Fitzgerald were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Fitzgerald died on Sunday.

Andre's conditions is unknown at this time.
