WOODBRIDGE, CT (WFSB) -

Emergency crews worked to put out a 4-alarm fire at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) on Amity Road in Woodbridge on Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 p.m. at the facility.

Woodbridge police said crews from multiple towns, like Orange and Bethany, responded as well.

The fire closed Route 63, from Route 114 to Bradley Road.

Officials say at least 150 people, including children, were inside the building at the time of the fire. They were all evacuated and brought to another facility.

Judy Diamondstein, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, said those inside made it out of the three-story building safe, thanks in part to the efforts of the emergency personnel from the several departments.

"I am so impressed with the response by police and the fire department everybody was here immediately, calm, cool and collected and I think that's what kept all of our members calm. I could not be prouder of my staff, our members," Diamondstein.

Two firefighters were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. Officials said those firefighters are expected to spend the night at the hospital.

Fire officials said there is extensive damage to the first floor of the building.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.

The center will be closed on Tuesday.
