MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A 56-year-old man was in critical condition and a 41-year-old woman was in stable condition after his SUV slammed into Meriden home on Tuesday morning.

The SUV crashed into home at 629 Broad St. just before 8 a.m.

The driver, Michael Quigley, was flown by the Life Star emergency helicopter to the hospital and police said that he is "expected to survive." Police said they have been unable to speak with Quigley.

The passenger, Raya Odell, was "luckily her injuries were not as severe as they were first thought to be," police said.

Police said the driver somehow lost control in what may have been a medical emergency and drove directly into the house. He never braked and just collided with the home, according to police.

Officials said that the house has been shifted off its foundation. They said the Meriden Fire Department may condemn it.

Most of the people living in the home were at work, but two residents were inside at the time of the crash. Five families live in the home, but police had no information about the exact number of people who are affected. The American Red Cross was brought in to help the families.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"Unfortunately there was no usable video from a nearby building which we were hoping may shed some light as to the circumstances of the accident," Meriden Police Sgt. Darrin McKay said in a statement on Wednesday.
