Downtown Wallingford is beginning to look a lot like Christmas and some storefront window displays are attracting plenty of photographers.
People are pulling out their cell phones and grabbing a selfie stick to take a picture in front of their favorite holiday display.
It's all part of a contest being run by the Chamber of Commerce, which is designed to help the shoppers and the businesses in Wallingford.
The decorated windows are all part of the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce's holiday window and outdoor display.
A number of businesses in downtown Wallingford along with a few in North Haven, decorated their windows and set up elaborate displays.
The Chamber wants shoppers to snap a selfie and vote for their favorite display.
A randomly selected winner will get a $50 gift card.
It's not just a fun contest, the selfies and the displays are also designed to help draw shoppers into their stores. The idea is that if someone is taking a selfie and being part of the contest, they might as well go inside the store to see what they have to sell.
The selfies are being posted on the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page.
"It's fantastic, the people of our community love it. They're going from window to window taking pictures of themselves, selfies, hoping to win the fifty dollar gift car, but it brings the community downtown, makes a little energy," said Sal Greco of the Wallingford Flower Shoppe.
The contest runs through December 21st. If you would like to learn more or see some of the selfies, you can click here.
