HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

On Monday, those who have served and are still serving were honored in a moving Wreaths Across America ceremony in Hartford.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember the fallen, honor those who have served, and teach children the values of freedom.

"It doesn't have to be Veterans Day or Memorial Day, it can be before a holiday. It can be because we're now celebrating family,” said Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.

On Monday, one of the wreaths was at the State Capitol, just one of thousands that will be placed on graves of veterans across the entire country, at sea and abroad on Saturday, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day.

"It is a special time of year to celebrate with family, but to recognize the sacrifice of those women and men in uniform who served to make all these freedoms so,” said Sean Connolly, commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
