SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A man Southington police said was responsible for a bank robbery in town has been released from the hospital and is due in court on Tuesday.

They said David Latino, 44, of Naugatuck, was the subject of a pursuit near Route 8 in Naugatuck on Monday.

It began at the TD Bank on Main Street.

Police said a lone suspect entered and passed a note to a teller that demanded money. No weapon was shown. It was only implied.

The suspect received an unknown amount of cash and fled from the bank in a green SUV.

A Southington officer found the vehicle on West Center Street and tried to stop it; however, the suspect got away.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle due to slushy road conditions.

Surrounding towns were given a description of the vehicle.

Police said a number of agencies came into contact with the suspect. The van eventually stopped on Route 8 near exit 25 where he fled on foot.

The suspect, identified as Latino, ran through the Naugatuck River and into the High Rock State Forest area.

As a result, the nearby Laurel Ledge School in Beacon Falls was briefly locked down.

Latino was eventually taken into custody and transported to Waterbury Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Tuesday, he was released from the hospital and transported to the Southington Police Department.

Latino was charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny, reckless driving and engaging in a pursuit.

He was held on a $250,000 bond and given a court date of Tuesday in Bristol.
