STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Stratford said they arrested a convicted felon because he was in possession of a couple of guns, including one that was stolen.

Daniel MacDaniel, 37, of Stratford, was arrested on Thursday.

Police and ATF agents said they'd been investigating MacDaniel after suspecting that he had a handgun reportedly stolen from Higganum last month.

Search warrants were obtained and police said they found it in MacDaniel's apartment on Jackson Avenue.

In addition to the stolen handgun, police said he also had a sawed-off shotgun.

They said since he's a convicted felon, he's not allowed to have firearms.

MacDaniel was charged with illegal transfer of a firearm, fifth-degree larceny, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and risk of injury to a minor.

He was held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 4, 2017.
