WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (WFSB) -

A father in Windsor Locks missed Christmas with his family last year as he spent the holiday in the hospital, fighting for his life after a fall from his roof while hanging Christmas lights.

Community members stepped in this year to the day of Jones’s accident for a Christmas surprise that included carolers, gifts for the family, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

After a fall that nearly ended his life, Jones said he was told he’d never talk or walk again.

They called him the miracle man at the hospital,” said his wife, Jennifer Jones. “Because nobody thought he would survive and he's beat all odds."

Jones has been in recovery for months following the accident, and has not been able to work.

"We wanted to make sure that they had a wonderful Christmas for them and their children," said Gail Stegman of the Windsor Locks Lions Club, who arranged the celebration.

Tonight, Jones is standing tall. He said thanks in part to the efforts of those who saved his life that day, and those who continue to aid in his recovery.

"This is very overwhelming and very emotional and thanks be to God and all of our family and friends and the whole wonderful community,” said Jones.

“We can't thank everybody enough from the bottoms of our hearts."

Friends of the Jones family have created a GoFundMe page to help the family with expenses. You can find the page here.
