CAPITOLA, Calif. (KSBW/CNN) -- A man shot and killed his 8-year-old daughter before killing himself in a car parked outside a shopping mall in Southern California.
Police said a woman called 911 just minutes before the shooting to report that her 36-year-old husband was at the Capitola Mall and attempting to kill himself.
The mother, father and daughter were all shopping together before he started making suicidal threats on Sunday, Police Chief Terry McManus said.
When police arrived at the mall, the woman directed officers to where they could find the family's black Kia Soul.
Officers found the man and daughter inside the car with gunshot wounds.
"The evidence itself at the crime scene in conjunction with the witness' statements and the statement from the woman who called police initially together will hopefully answer some of the questions that, at this point of the investigation, are simply not answered," said McManus.
"We do know based upon our investigation that the family was together for a portion of the day at the mall prior to the tragic outcome here."
Police have not yet identified the man and his daughter, as the coroner's unit continues to investigate the incident.
