Man dies in Stamford after diver rescue on Friday

STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A man has died after divers pulled him from the water in Stamford on Friday morning. 

Stamford Fire Department Divers responded to a drowning incident in an inlet of water between Ware Island and Shippan Point near Harbor Drive at11:22 a.m. on Friday.

The Stamford Fire Department said that divers searched for the 34-year-old man with the “assistance of side-scan sonar” mounted on the fire boat and brought him to shore less than one hour from the time of the 911 call. 

CPR was given to the man on scene and was transferred to Stamford Hospital for advanced medical care where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident is still under investigation by the Stamford Police Detective Bureau.
