It's a story that will give animal lovers "paws."
Marley the dog had been through abuse and her new family said she has not only recovered, she's maintained a gentle side by befriending a deer.
Genny Christensen of Lebanon said her family took in Marley after learning that no one wanted her.
She said Marley endured abuse in the form of battery acid poured on her back.
She shared photos with Channel 3 that depicted Marley's horrific wounds.
However, the experience did nothing to dampen Marley's spirits.
Christensen said Marley developed an instant connection with her family while at the East Coast Canine Rescue in Pomfret.
As soon as they got out of the car, she said Marley followed them around for four hours and never left their sides.
"She was gentle with my [young] son and was running around with him never knocking him over or nipping," Christensen wrote to Channel 3. "We decided that she need to come home with us."
Since she came home with the family, Marley's back has healed.
Christensen said over the past month, Marley befriended a mother deer after a family of the animals visited the backyard.
Every morning for two weeks now, she reports that Marley waits for the deer and the two animals play.
"The deer comes up to Marley and then they start chasing each other," Christensen said. "Marley is truly and amazing dog."
She thanked East Coast Canine Rescue for bringing Marley to the family.
"I just want to share a story of a rescue dog and her amazing story," Christensen said.
