WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Dozens of restaurants across Connecticut are coming together to help support the Puerto Rico hurricane relief efforts.

The fundraiser is called CT Loves PR and about 75 restaurants across the state are on board.

The campaign starts on Saturday, October 21, which means the money spent on a night out could help make a significant impact.

"We love to give back to the community and I think anything we do that's involved in a fundraiser like this that's benefiting somebody else is something we absolutely need to be a part of," said Lee Kopel from Max's Oyster Bar.

From Max's Oyster Bar to McLadden's, restaurants are coming together for one week to help with this campaign.

"I think it's a great idea," said Anthony Martin from McLadden's in West Hartford.

Restaurants and eateries across the state will say CT Loves Puerto Rico by offering dish or drink specials, all with a Puerto Rican flare.

McLadden's is stepping outside its standard fare with a dish to support the cause.

"It's chicken with butter, onion, garlic, over rice and some corn goblets," Martin said.

There are also places participating in this campaign that will tempt your sweet tooth.

"This is Thai-style ice cream," said Christian Szabo-Williams from Icy Rolls.

Icy Rolls is mixing up a special island concoction.

"We're going to do a special flavor just for this fundraiser called Puerto Passion Fruit. It's going to be our vanilla ice cream and everything passion fruit that we can squeeze into it," Szabo-Williams said.

Each time someone orders one of those Puerto Rican specials, more money will go to help those in need.

"every penny goes directly to the relief efforts and anything else we can possibly do to help people," Szabo-Williams said.

The goal is to make it easy for everyone to contribute to a good cause.

"Let's come together to do something that matters," Szabo-Williams said.

The campaign here in the state is modeled after a similar effort launched in Los Angeles two weeks ago.
