A 55-year-old man was killed in a crash on I-84 west in Waterbury on Monday morning.
Connecticut State Police said the crash, which involved a car and a tractor-trailer, happened near exit 20 when the two vehicles collided.
The highway was closed between exits 21 and 19, but it has since reopened.
Police said the man killed in the crash was identified as Howard Pellagrino, of Waterbury.
The tractor-trailer driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Nearly 5 miles worth of delays were reported around 10:45 a.m. on Monday.
Drivers were able to get onto the Route 8 southbound ramp, but they couldn't get any further on the lower level of the Mixmaster.
People were diverted off of exit 19.
According to troopers, about 50-60 gallons of fuel spilled. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, along with the DOT, were notified.
