New Haven police identify late night homicide victim

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

New Haven police are investigating a homicide on Tuesday morning.

Police identified the victim as 28-year-old Darrin Norris Winfrey.

According to police, officers heard a gunshot from Poplar Street late Monday around 11:40 p.m.

About a block away on Richard Street, an officer located Winfrey lying on the ground. Officers called for emergency medical personnel after learning that the man had been shot.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died from his wound.

Police have processed the crime scene and continue to collect evidence.

So far, no one has provided any description of the assailant or any other possible involved persons. A possible vehicle has also not been mentioned.

Police are asking for the public's help.
