HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Police and fire officials blocked off a road in downtown Hartford on Wednesday morning after what was initially reported as a manhole explosion.

Eversource said water came in contact with an underground wire box and it shorted out.

The closure was on Columbus Boulevard near the Connecticut Science Center, between State and Bob Steele streets.

Before it reopened later in the morning, the closure also impacted inbound traffic on the Founders Bridge.

Fire trucks and police cruisers were spotted at the scene.

Hartford police Deputy Chief Brian Foley said Eversource made repairs.

No one needed to be evacuated.
