EAST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A pizza delivery driver was shot in the leg during what started as a robbery attempt and nearly ended as a carjacking.

Shawn Baker, 38, was arrested for a list of charges.

The incident happened in the area of 42 Forbes Place in East Haven, according to police.

Police said they received a call about it around 10:15 p.m. on Monday.

When they arrived, they said they found two men fighting on the ground.

The victim immediately told officers that he had been shot in the leg.

He said he was a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza. He was approached by Baker, who was wearing a black ski mask and white latex gloves, after making a delivery. Baker demanded money from the victim.

The victim said he handed over money, but fighting ensued after Baker demanded the vehicle as well.

That's when the victim was shot in the leg.

The victim told police that Baker also tried to shoot him a second time, but the gun jammed.

Police said they found a black handgun in Baker's area. They also found the ski mask and latex gloves nearby.

The driver's injury was not life-threatening.

Baker was brought to a hospital and arrested after being released.

He was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, criminal attempt at second-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit carjacking, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of a pistol.

Baker was held on a $250,000 bond and give a court date of Tuesday morning.
