Crews battled an early morning fire in East Hartford on Thursday.
An official from the East Hartford Fire Department said a man alerted the families inside the home to the fire at the Chapel Street home just after 1 a.m.
Fire officials said three families live in the home and all of them made it out safely.
"I am shocked because this is the first time I’ve seen something like that this," said Anthony Collazo, a neighbor. "I’ve lived here [for] four years. This neighborhood is quiet. No commotion, nothing like that at all."
Upon arrival, crews said the fire was coming from a porch of the second floor of the building.
Fire officials said no one was injured.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
