PROSPECT, CT (WFSB) -

A quick moving storm caused lightning to hit a front yard in Prospect, causing quite the mess.

The strike knocked out a well pump, an electric dog fence, and some indoor and outdoor gadgets in one neighborhood.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but the lightning hit the bottom of a tree in front of one home, took off, and then traveled into another yard, and created a trench along the way.

Neighbors said first, the rain was coming down so hard it was blinding, then they heard the loud noise.

“When the strike first happened, I thought it hit the corner of my garage and looked and a neighbor started yelling, hit the bottom of the tree and followed his dog fence and the trench was 50 feet long,” said Brian Stach, of Prospect.

This all happened at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, when the Early Warning Pinpoint Doppler was lit up with red, showing strong storms in the area.

Channel 3 didn’t hear about any other reports about damage in the area.

The well pump was being fixed on Thursday.
