WEST HARTFORD -- (April 24) About 30 homes lost water service after a water main break overnight. Police said the main broke sometime around midnight on Oakwod Avenue near Thomas Street. A Metropolitan District Commission representative said water service was restored at about 4 a.m.

GLASTONBURY -- The Glastonbury Town Council is planning to upgrade town roads and sidewalks. The $150,000 plan includes making upgrades to crosswalks at Rankin Road, Hebron Avenue near Main Street and at the intersection of Welles Street and the New London Turnpike

HARTFORD -- (April 22) A high-ranking member of the Hartford fire department is the center of an investigation. Deputy Fire Chief Dan Nolan was placed on administrative leave after being accused of encouraging firefighters to participate in charity organizations in exchange for favors in the department. Nolan is a 25-year veteran of the fire department.

WEST HARTFORD -- (April 22) In honor of Earth Day, West Hartford's libraries put up recycling displays for contest. Residents can pick up copies of the town's recycling guidelines at any West Hartford library locations and take a recycling quiz. All who answer the questions correctly will be entered to win a prize. The contest ends on Saturday.

WALLINGFORD -- (April 22) Wallingford town officials plan to begin making improvements to the parking lot behind Simpson Court this summer. The project will increase the number of parking spaces from 130 to 153. The lot will also be repaved and brickwork and ornamental lighting will be added. The project is estimated to cost about $250,000.

BLOOMFIELD -- (April 22) Two years after shutting its doors, the Bloomfield Cinemas 8 will reopen. The movie theater will reopen on Friday, April 25 with a fresh coat of paint, renovated bathrooms and upgrades to the sound system and projection rooms. The theater is located in the Wintonbury Mall.

HARTFORD -- (April 22) A crash in Hartford's South End on Monday has killed a person. Eyewitness News has learned that the car was speeding along Franklin Avenue at about 6 p.m. when it crashed into five parked cars. Two passengers were thrown from the car and taken to an area hospital. Police have not released the name of the victims and the incident remains under investigation.

MANCHESTER -- (April 22) Two of 12 restaurants in the Buckland Hills Mall area of Manchester sold alcohol to minors in an undercover operation, authorities said. The two restaurants cited by officials were the Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill and the 99 Restaurant and Pub. The two establishments were charged with selling liquor to a minor and will face a hearing before the liquor control commission.

Western Connecticut

BETHLEHEM -- (April 23) A Bethlehem teen was one of three teens honored at the state Capitol on Wednesday. Christopher Capowich was vacationing with two friends in Florida when they heard screams coming from a nearby home. He said an 8-year-old boy had fallen into the deep end of a swimming pool. Capowich and his friends hopped a fence and pulled the boy from the pool. Capowich administered CPR for 4 minutes until the boy was resuscitated.

DANBURY -- (April 22) A woman lying in the railroad tracks got stuck beneath a Metro-North Train headed for downtown Danbury on Monday evening. The train stopped near East Liberty Street. Crews jumped out of the train to find the woman unharmed. She was transported to Danbury Hospital for observation.

WATERTOWN -- (April 15) A vandalism spree at Veteran's Memorial Park in Watertown has left the town without a soccer field. Authorities said that a vehicle drove around the field in circles last week, tearing up the field's grass.

WOODBURY -- (April 3) Government officials will be in the Woodbury area next month to dedicate the emergency river wall, which was built last year on the Pomperaug River to prevent a nearby house from washing away. The wall cost about $500,000.

Connecticut Shoreline

MILFORD -- (April 22) A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Platt Regional Technical High School in Milford on Tuesday. The ceremony celebrated the completion of the living classroom. The school was granted $10,000 to rebuild the outdoor classroom after it was vandalized and burned last summer. The 2-acre site is comprised of vegetation and wildlife.

STRATFORD -- (April 22) A fire ignited on the second floor of the Ramada Inn on Lordship Boulevard in Stratford on Tuesday morning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but fire crews said they believe the fire started from a built-in heating/air conditioning unit. Eyewitness News reported heavy smoke emanated from the scene. No injuries were reported and the business remains open.

NAUGATUCK -- (April 17) The former Peter Paul candy plant in Naugatuck will be added to a newly-created commercial corridor on New Haven Road. The property was formerly part of an industrial zone. The factory, which made Almond Joy and Mounds bars, closed in November.

Eastern Connecticut

NORWICH -- (April 23) Plans to renovate Kelly Middle School in Norwich have been snarled. The $40.2 million project will not receive legislative approval this spring as city officials had hoped. Workers will continue to remove asbestos and other hazardous materials from inside the school this summer to get a jumpstart on the project. The legislature is expect to formally approve the project during the 2009 legislative session.

WILLIMANTIC -- (April 17) A man wanted by police on murder, assault and gun charges in New York City was arrested in Willimantic on Thursday morning. Willimantic and New York police arrested Ivan Santoni, 22, at his Spring Street apartment. Police said the charges stem from a shooting in the Bronx in December. He remained held on $500,000 bond pending arraignment.

PLAINFIELD -- (April 15) Police are investigating an attempted robbery in Plainfield. Police said someone kicked in the glass front door of the Wauregan Package Store on Monday night. The culprit fled from the North Chestnut Street store before getting inside, police said.

MASHANTUCKET -- (April 15) With one successful union vote, the push to unionize workers at the Foxwoods Resort Casino is expanding. Two unions have filed paperwork to represent slot machine technicians. The United Auto Workers union filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board on Monday. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers last week filed with the NLRB to unionize slot technicians.

UNCASVILLE -- The town of Uncasville is planning to install street lights on a stretch of Route 32. The lights will be installed from the Norwich line to Golden Road and are meant to increase pedestrian safety. Sidewalks will also be built to the Route 2A interchange. The Mohegan Tribe donated some of the money to fund the project.
