State police reopened both lanes of northbound I-95 at the Branford rest area near exit 55 at about 9:15 a.m.

Troopers reopened the left lane shortly after 10 a.m. and set up a detour at exit 54. The right lane reopened shortly before noon.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Hena Daniels reported the car ended up underneath the trailer and ignited into flames that engulfed the side of the truck, which was carrying hundreds of boxes of Nestle Toll House Cookies.

Police said that the car's driver lost control when attempting to change lanes. After sliding underneath the truck's trailer, the car was dragged for about 150 feet before catching fire, according to police.

"I heard the squeal of brakes and the crunch," said a man who witnessed the crash. "I saw the tractor-trailer catch on fire, the trailer was on fire, but I saw a guy crawl out of the car."

The North Branford Fire Department responded to the scene. No one was seriously injured.
