Broken Water Main Closes Route 71 In Berlin

BERLIN, Conn. -- Route 71 was closed in Berlin early Wednesday morning because of a water main break, police said.All lanes of the roadway were closed between Route 364 and Norton Road at about midnight.About 100 customers were without water immediately following the break. Water was expected to be turned back on sometime during the morning on Wednesday.Police said that they believe the break was caused by an old pipe.
The Department of Transportation estimated that nine to 10 hours were needed to reopen the roadway.
