GROTON, Conn. -- Emergency service organizations kept busy Friday, making preparations for what Mother Nature may have in store for the Connecticut shore this weekend.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin Hogan reported that siding contractors wrapped up work at a seaside home at Groton Long Point. The workers told Eyewitness News that they are expecting big waves if Sunday's predicted Nor'Easter hits at the right time."Basically, I guess when the wind and the rain are driving toward this house we're working on, this place can sometimes get a foot of water," said contractor Tom Harnish.Joseph Sastre, emergency manager director in Groton said that he was keeping a close eye on the Channel 3 Early Warning Weather forecast Friday."A lot of it depends on the type of storm coming -- how fast the storm is traveling, the track," Sastre said.Sastre said how badly the coast gets hit depends on the tides. In New London, high tide on Sunday is at 8:13 a.m. and 8:34 p.m. In New Haven, Sunday's high tide is expected at 9:51 a.m. and 10:13 p.m.The American Red Cross urged shoreline residents to take precautions for the Nor'Easter."We urge people to prepare now for potential wind damage and flooding," said Michelle Funaro, director of emergency services for the Red Cross. The storm is expected to bring heavy rains, flooding, strong winds and tidal surges.
