Governor Issues Drought Advisory
State Agencies Asked To Conserve Water

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The governor issued a drought advisory for the state on Friday, asking state agencies to conserve water.This comes after several towns in the state have enacted various water restrictions in their towns, citing a lack of rain. For example, town officials in Sprague asked residents this week to refrain from outdoor water use (More)."We all must do our part to cut down on our water usage," Gov. Jodi Rell said in a written statement obtained by Eyewitness News. "Rainfall totals over the past few months have been 35 percent below normal.""Since Aug. 1, we have had a rainfall deficit of over 6½ inches," Channel 3 Early Warning Weather meteorologist Mark Dixon said. "We have had no measurable rain in October. On Sept. 28, we had .01 of an inch of rain. That's barely anything."The governor's office cited low levels of water in reservoirs statewide."The Quinebaug, Housatonic and Naugatuck rivers are flowing at seriously low levels. Town officials in Bristol, Manchester, Norwich, Sprague, Greenwich and Sharon have already enacted emergency rules regarding water conservation," Rell said.The governor also noted that forest fire danger dangers remain high.The state is offering more tips to conserve water.
