HARTFORD, Conn. -- Students waited for their teachers to get to class at Fred Wish Elementary School. The teachers were stranded outside the campus.Hartford schools started 90 minutes late on Friday after a heavy snowstorm on Thursday. The delay, however, stretched longer for the Fred Wish faculty. Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Hena Daniels reported dozens of teachers stood outside in the cold for an hour and a half waiting for the parking lot to be plowed."Because they have to plow the streets, I'll get a ticketed or get towed, and who's going to pay? This is ridiculous," one teacher told Eyewitness News. She, and other teachers, parked along the street while waiting for the parking lot to be cleared.Hundreds of students waited inside the auditorium supervised by the principal as crews tried to remove almost a foot of snow from the teachers' lot.One snow plow got stuck at least three times before breaking down, Daniels said. Another tractor was then called in."Bizarre," a parent said. "This if the first time I've ever seen this happen."Teachers were later able to get their cars inside the parking lot.Board of Education officials told Eyewitness News a contractor had equipment problems. Officials then called in their building and ground staff, which cleaned the lot.The district has plans for plows to be at the campus all weekend in hopes of avoiding issues on Monday.
