DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

Don't Forget To 'Fall Back' This Weekend

Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday

POSTED: 10:21 am EDT October 31, 2008

It's time to say goodbye to daylight saving time. Standard time returns this weekend, so don't forget to set your clock back an hour before turning in Saturday night.

Clocks shift back to standard time at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time, giving most people an extra hour of sleep Saturday night -- except in Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, which do not observe daylight saving time.

Of course, "falling back" also means an extra hour of work to those who work the overnight shift.

Fire safety officials say this also is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Daylight saving time returns the second Sunday in March.

From 1966 to 2006, most of the U.S. observed daylight saving time starting the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday of October, which made for darker Halloween evenings.
