Insurance Van Offers Tornado Victims Help

Van Set Up On Silas Deane

The post-tornado pick up has made a lot of progress in Wethersfield, thanks, in part, to a mobile insurance office bringing relief to residents.

Town officials have estimated that the damage caused by last week’s F1 tornado at about $500,000. They said about 70 homes were damaged by the storm and that some of them will have to be completely torn down.

“We have a tree crew down here with an aerial bucket and a chipper taking down trees, with a 10-wheeler hauling logs away,” Windsor Tree Warden Jim Jovoni said.

Jovoni was talking about the debris left after a 90-year-old tree fell in the front yard of a Lincoln Street home.

Resident Frank Davidoff said he only lost a little mulberry tree but feels for his hard-hit neighbors.

“It must be complicated,” he said. “Aside from getting services and support hooked back up, there are obviously insurance claims, too.”

That’s where the Travelers Mobile Command Catastrophe van becomes helpful.

Parked on the Silas Deane Highway on Wednesday, representatives offered those who need help the ability to process insurance claims on the spot.

“Customers can come here to report a loss,” said Ray Stone, of Travelers Insurance. “We have staff on board here to adjust the claim, help people through the claim adjustment process. People are able to pay claims from here, so we can offer the full range of services.”
