Snow Doesn't Stop UConn Fans

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Snow began falling across Connecticut Saturday afternoon and a winter weather advisory was issued for much of the state.A winter weather advisory was issued for Hartford, Tolland, Windham and Litchfield counties for Saturday into early Sunday morning. The rain changed into snow as temperatures dropped as day faded into night.The snow didn't stop University of Connecticut football fans, who gathered at Rentchler Field for the team's last game of the season.Fans braved the blustery air and falling flakes beneath tarps while consuming gallons of hot cocoa. UConn faced South Florida, and emerged victorious.Dave Teggart kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired and and Connecticut beat South Florida 29-27, finishing a season marred by tragedy with three consecutive wins. Click Here For Complete Game Report UConn drove 31 yards in six plays to set up the kick by Teggart, who had a field goal blocked earlier in the quarter.High school football fans across the state braved the snow, with four of six championship games being held Saturday. Two games, Cheshire vs Staples and Berlin vs Bethel, were postponed until Sunday. (Click Here For Championship Scores)Two high school football games were postponed Saturday amid the winter weather.Department of Transportation officials said a couple hundred trucks were dispatched at 3 p.m. Saturday to begin treating roadways in various parts of the state. Just before 10 p.m., state police estimated there had been about 45 reports of crashes or drivers going off the roadway. They said no serious injuries were reported.As of 11 p.m. Saturday, the most snow was reported in Harwinton, with five to six inches falling in the town. Four inches accumulated in Burlington, and two in Durham.Click here for your complete forecast.
