Internships At WFSB-TV
WFSB-TV, the number one television station in Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for college internships. We offer internships for the fall, spring and summer semesters. These are non-salaried positions in our brand, new state-of-the-art television facility in Rocky Hill, just off I-91.Interested students should submit a resume and cover letter to Melanie O’Brien, Internship Coordinator, 333 Capitol Blvd., Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or e-mail to mobrien@wfsb.com. Please include the semester you are applying for. No volunteer positions are offered. Interns must be able to earn college credit for their work at WFSB.Students must have junior, senior or graduate level status to apply.Deadlines for applications are: Summer semester, March 1; Fall semester, August 1; Spring semester, December 1.Interns may be accepted into the following areas at WFSB:NEWSROOMThe Channel 3 news team brings over 50 hours of news programming to Connecticut viewers each week as well as an up-to-the-minute website. Interns will be able to take part in news gathering in a number of areas in the newsroom. Students interested in a variety of areas will have the opportunity to observe, learn and work on our assignment desk, with producers, editors, photographers and more.During their rotation in news, interns will work closely with reporters, assignment desk editors, and producers. They will go out on news stories with a reporter and photographer. At the end of their rotations, interns should have a good feel for their area of interest as they continue their studies back at college.Qualifications: Students applying for news internships should have a strong news sense, be able to recognize a good new story, have some journalism experience preferably in a television setting, have good computer skills, be detail-oriented, be inquisitive, able to take direction and able to work independently.Internships are available on the assignment desk, in special projects, sports, news edit.CREATIVE SERVICESCreative Services is actually the station’s in-house advertising department. It handles special events, press releases, promoting news shows and content, graphic design and campaigns. Interning in this fast-paced department will allow a student to learn first-hand how the news is promoted, AVID editing, graphic design and more. Interns will also go into the field with photographers and producers.Qualifications: A strong creative background with good writing and computer skills.MARKETINGThe Marketing Department serves both WFSB and WSHM, our sister station in Springfield, Mass. Work may involve research, preparing presentation packets and information, learning about the television rating system, creating promotional materials for clients.Qualifications: Strong interest in marketing. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently with a professional attitude and the ability to offer ideas.
