PUTNAM, Conn. (WFSB) - Pizza lovers are going to love The Broken Crust in Putnam.

The Broken Crust was established nearly two years ago in a former diner.

Owners and chefs, Melissa and Joe Cozza, and friend Kevin Martin fulfilled a lifelong dream.

“You know what, its probably time for us to do our own thing. He’s absolutely the brains behind all this. I cook everything and he keeps everything in line,” said Melissa Cozza.

You’ll love this popular item for Valentine’s Day, a heart shaped pizza. Fresh dough with homemade sauce.

“We got our sauce on here now we’re going to put on some shredded mozzarella, made with buffalo milk,” said Melissa Cozza.

Add a handful of red colored peperoni and pop that in the oven for 20 minutes and slice it up.

“Today we’re going too be making our Triple “B.” Applewood smoked bacon, apricot glaze, brie’ cheese and we’ll grille that on the grille,” said Melissa Cozza.

“I think its the fresh products that we use and all the... everything pretty much, we make it all here,” said Martin.

Customer’s love their vast menu.

Eight days after opening, COVID struck. So The Broken Crust gave all their food away and began “Operation Broken Crust.”

Operation Broken Crust is a non-profit that gives back to community organizations.

“We couldn’t have anybody in the restaurant and then it just made sense. We were doing it. We always wanted to contribute to the community, we didn’t know how,” said Joe Cozza.
