HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - One person is dead and a suspect is on the loose after a double shooting in Hartford on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Ernesto Morales of Manchester.

Police said it happened in the area of 640 Broad St. around 3:30 pm.

They said the number of shots fired could indicate that an automatic weapon was used. More than 20 evidence markers were used at the scene.

They found that two male victims suffered gunshot wounds.

Morales was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A second victim was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said that at last check, he was in stable condition. He was only described as a man in his 20s.

Neighbors said the shooting put the community on edge.

“It’s kind of nerve-wracking. I live right next door so. Welcome to Hartford I guess,” said Robert Berry of Hartford. “I was in my apartment and all of a sudden, [I] kind of heard some gunshots [and] didn’t really know what was up. [I was] minding my own business.”

Police said the case marked Hartford’s 28 homicide of the year.

They said they were reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras for any clues about a suspect.
