1 killed, 5 seriously hurt in Bloomfield two-car crash
BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) - One person was killed and a five other people were hurt in a Bloomfield two-car crash on Friday morning.
It happened around 5:15 a.m. on Blue Hills Avenue between West Dudley Town and Old Windsor roads.
The man who was killed was only identified as a 23-year-old. He was in a Volkswagen GTI hatchback, along with men with various injuries who were 21, 21, 26, and 27 years old.
The driver of a 2004 Subaru Legacy, only identified as a 33-year-old man from Windsor, was said to be “medically unresponsive with life-threatening injuries” and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital.
The area was closed to drivers following the crash.
Police said the drivers of the two cars were traveling at a high rate of speed and passing several vehicles before the crash.
Both vehicles left the roadway at some point.
The Volkswagen struck a utility pole, which severed it.
The Subaru hit a building at 1294 Blue Hills Ave., which caused the vehicle to catch fire.
The vehicle that struck the pole had five people in it. One of them, the 23-year-old, was pronounced dead on the scene. The other four were brought to a hospital. Two suffered serious injuries. The two others had injuries that were described as “life-threatening.”
Police continue to investigate.
