Man struck by train at the Meriden-Berlin line
MERIDEN/BERLIN, CT (WFSB) - A man was struck and killed last week by an Amtrak train on the Meriden-Berlin line.
Amtrak called the man a trespasser and identified him as Jonathan Donaghy, 29, of Bristol.
Amtrak service through Connecticut and Massachusetts was slowed on June 5 because of the incident.
The collision happened near Empire Avenue in Meriden, on the Berlin town line.
Amtrak said Donaghy made contact with train number 490 as it traveled north from New Haven to Springfield, MA.
Meriden and Berlin police along with fire and rescue responded.
Amtrak police also responded. The medical examiner also came to the scene.
Local and Amtrak police came and went from the area and a location at Silver Lake in Berlin.
Amtrak officials were the lead investigating unit.
The tracks that run north and south from Springfield were at 50-percent usage during the investigation.
No other details were released.
