HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) - Hamden police said just before 10:30 last night, officers found a 34-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the neck and cheek.

It happened near the New Haven line at the intersection of Goodrich and Butler Street.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition.

Sadly, the sound gun fire is nothing new for those calling this neighborhood home.

In fact, just about a year ago on this same corner, a woman was shot while sitting inside her own home.

Stopping at the corner store, Joshua McFadden said he tries to avoid the gun violence, but it’s not easy.

“This always happens,” said McFadden. “It’s sickening, but at the same time this is what society brings.”

Last September, this same spot was the scene of a shootout between multiple people with police finding bullet casings in the street and nearby driveways.

One bullet ended up coming through a wall of a home hitting a woman in the shoulder.

She was just sitting in a chair watching tv.

A 16-year-old girl was arrested a week later in connection to that shooting.

As for this shooting, Hamden’s Major Crimes Unit is heading up the investigation.

A father out with his young son, who asked not to be identified, offered a plea to those pulling the trigger.

“It’s got to stop, it’s wicked out here, it’s wicked out here. My kid has to grow up in this. I don’t want him growing up in this. Yet at the same time, no matter where you move to, you can’t beat crime.”

On the other hand, Joshua said he’s had enough.

“I’m going back to Raleigh; I don’t want to stay here. It’s crazy,” said McFadden.
