Man found dead after suffering gunshot wound in East Hartford
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A death investigation is underway in East Hartford, according to police.
A man was found dead near Burnside Avenue Tuesday evening, and officers referred to it as a suspicious death.
Police said they found a man lying on the side of the road with a gunshot wound when they arrived on the scene.
Family members of the victim spoke to Channel 3 and identified the man as Juan Morales, who is in his mid-20s.
The Morales family was too emotional to speak on camera, but they shared a picture of Juan celebrating his birthday.
The Morales family lit two candles at the scene, which is right next to a cemetery. They have no idea what led up to their loved one dying.
DJ Wilcox lives nearby.
“I thought I heard a pop last night, but I thought it was my TV because I have my TV so loud all the time,” said Wilcox. “Condolences to the family.”
Officers said they are not immediately identifying the victim because it’s still an active investigation.
Police worked at the scene for several hours on Tuesday.
At the time, there was a significant police presence on Burnside Avenue.
