Boy holds hands of crying classmate with autism

(Meredith) - A heartwarming photo that shows an 8-year-old boy holding the hand of a crying classmate is going viral.

Courtney Moore captured the sweet moment between her son, Christian, and his classmate, Connor, about two weeks ago outside Minneha Elementary School in Wichita, Kansas.

Connor has autism and was having trouble adjusting on the first day of school, according to KAKE-TV. When he began to cry, Christian stepped in to comfort him.

"I’m so proud of my son," Moore wrote on Facebook. "He [saw] a kid balled up into a corner crying, so he went to console him, grabbed his hand and walked him inside of the school! It is an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate child!"

"He’s a kid with a big heart," she added. "The first day of school started off right."

More than 20,000 people shared the photo on Facebook, including Connor's mother, April Crites.

"Tell your son I said thank you so very much! That little boy he helped is my son and is autistic," Crites commented on Moore's post, according to KWCH-TV. "I worry everyday that he is going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart. If there were more children like him I wouldn't worry about such things."

Moore told the other mom that Christian also struggles with speech, and she hopes this will be the beginning of a new friendship for both of their sons.

It's like a breath of fresh air, after enough drama in the news.
