God, Guns and America

HONEA PATH, S.C. (WHNS/Meredith) -- "God, guns and America."

A car dealership in South Carolina is using that phrase for a new promotion.

Anyone who purchases a vehicle at Carolina Ford in Honea Path can take home a Bible, an American flag, and a voucher for a Smith & Wesson AR-15. The offer is available until the end of November.

Derrick Hughes, the dealership's general manager, said the idea for the promotion came after he and his team discussed their beliefs.

"We love America, we love God and we like to hunt," Hughes said. "We live in a small town where a lot of people like to hunt. [The promotion] appeals to our demographic."

Hughes said those interested in receiving a gun will get a voucher after they purchase a car. The voucher can be redeemed at Locked and Loaded, a gun shop in Abbeville.

The gun shop will run a background check on customers before redeeming their vouchers. If they fail the background check, Hughes said they will get store credit to purchase another item.

Hughes also explained that customers can choose to decline the offer. In those instances, the dealership will deduct the price of the gun from the total amount of the car purchase.

This is the first time the dealership has offered this kind of deal.

With Christmas just around the corner, Hughes said he's also considering a promotion to help families in need during the holidays.

Pretty awesome. But it's not much of an "offer" if you can deduct the cost of said offer from the price if you don't want it.
