Jussie Smollett

Actor Jussie Smollett leaves Leighton Criminal Courthouse after his court appearance on March 14, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. Smollett stands accused of arranging a homophobic, racist attack against himself in an attempt to raise his profile because he was dissatisfied with his salary on the Fox television drama "Empire."

(CNN/Meredith) -- "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett is having a big week.

His charges for allegedly staging a hoax hate crime against himself were dropped, and this weekend he could take home a big award.

Smollett is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 50th NAACP Image Awards on Saturday.

He hasn't said whether he'll attend the televised ceremony or not.

But Smollett arrived in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

An Illinois prosecutor dropped all 16 charges against Smollett on Tuesday.

But the city of Chicago plans to bill Smollett for the cost of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the actor's defense team is demanding an apology from the police chief and the mayor for “dragging an innocent man's character through the mud.”

Ohbilly

What an atrocious human being. To add insult to injury on top of that? He isn't even a buffoon. He is just a moron. Plain and simple trash.

Truthseeker

Smollett is lucky enough to have some corrupt politician pull strings to get is case dropped and he's stupid enough to demand an apology from the police chief and the mayor for “dragging an innocent man's character through the mud? It's bad enough corruption was in full use, but to turn and 'demand' an apology is disgusting. He had to forfeit his bond for a reason, it was a plea deal for his guilt!!!! Or is this just another CNN FAKE NEWS article?
