Mayor: Aetna decided to relocate a long time ago

Aetna said it's looking for ways to reduce operating costs, which could include layoffs.

The insurance company said on Tuesday that it recently informed its employees of several planned actions to help the company "grow" in 2017.

The actions included a voluntary early retirement program.

"We are also making changes to our telework policy, with the goal of increasing collaboration and driving innovation," said Matthew Clyburn, Aetna Media Relations. "We are constantly looking for ways to reduce operating costs, which includes reviewing how our resources are deployed. This is typical of any responsible company, large or small."

There's no word on how many jobs or positions it was looking to shed in this review.
