A generous man is making the rounds in New Haven, looking for those in need to give them free haircuts.

Barber and stylist Joffrey Jara is always on duty, and on Thursday he was walking up to men and women at the New Haven green, offering free haircuts. Most of those people are homeless.

Felix Santiago’s last haircut was one year ago. He’s been homeless for about five years, and recently found a home, and next comes a job.

It's not just the haircut, a lot of times Jara offers them food and some water, and said it costs about $20-30 a day to do this, but he said he feels it's worth it.

“A lot of people see money as everything but, I’m trying to help, you know,” Jara said.

His boss, Gina Bianca owns a salon in Southington and learned of Joffrey’s off-day exploits around the time she hired him, after seeing his posts on Facebook.

“I couldn't be more proud to have him,” Bianca said.

Richard Caine, who has been homeless for years, said others in New Haven cut hair for free, but the last time he's had a nice neat cut like this has been months.

While Jara makes no money clipping away, he said he does get plenty of smiles.

“Everyone is a human being and I want them to be happy and beautiful, I want them to feel real again, you know,” Jara said.
