Brian Harvey wins 2016 Eversource Hartford Marathon; Female winner is Elizabeth Ryan

Hartford marathon officials declared two winners Saturday morning.

Thousands of runners participated in the 23rd annual Eversource Hartford Marathon.

Brian Harvey won the 2016 Eversource Hartford Marathon. His unofficial time was 2:17:55.

The fastest time at the Eversource Hartford Marathon was 2:15:35.

Elizabeth Ryan from Boston is the female winner of the 2016 Eversource Hartford Marathon. Her unofficial time was 2:45:59.

The anticipation and excitement had been building for weeks and final preparations were completed early Sunday morning. Runners started at 8 a.m.

The winners of the half marathon were Antonio Wilson, with an unofficial time of 1:05:30, and Grace Kahura, with an unofficial time of 1:14:25.

The 5K winners were Dan Vassallo and Sara Buckley.

Thousands were on hand to cheer on the runners.

Police said roads in East Hartford, Hartford, West Hartford and South Windsor will be closed on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. To get the full list,

Hartford Marathon Foundation Tech Director Josh Miller told volunteers, spectators and of course, runners to arrive early, study the road closure plan and stay up-to-date with them on social media.

Organizers said the marathon brings in about $14 million to Hartford. Hotels and restaurants benefit from the most from the race.

As many as 2,500 volunteers were expected to help make the race possible.
