Police at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain are investigating a campus sexual assault, according to the school.

CCSU spokesperson Mark McLaughlin said the student who reported the incident was provided with support from the CCSU staff, including the university's victim's advocate.

"CCSU Police determined that the alleged assault was an isolated incident and not a threat to the campus community," McLaughlin said in a statement to Eyewitness News.

On Wednesday, students on campus said they heard about the reported sex assault on the news, rather than from the university itself.

"I want to know what's going on. What if it happens to other girls? I am a girl so I want to be informed too in case it could happen to me so it's like why won't you tell us," said Crystal Robles, who is a freshman at CCSU.

Police said "The alleged assault was an isolated incident and not a threat to the campus community.”

Either way, students say they're taking their own precautions.

“I won't walk by myself anymore, I will be with someone, a group of friends. That’s what everyone should do,” Robles said.
