A task force aimed at combating a heroin epidemic in the Groton area arrested two men on a number of charges.

Police said they took 41-year-old Gene Fluker and 25-year-old Joel Cardona into custody on Tuesday.

Detectives executed a search and seizure warrant on Brandagee Avenue in Groton City.

They said they had an active warrant for Fluker, who had fled the scene when they arrived.

However, he was quickly found and arrested. Police said at the time, he was in possession of some crack cocaine.

Detectives searched Fluker and Cardona's home and seized 3.5 ounces of marijuana, 5 grams of crack cocaine, 4.5 grams of powder cocaine, 70 prescription pills, $220 in cash, three cell phones and three digital scales.

Fluker faces a number of narcotics possession charges, along with interfering and resisting arrest.

Cardona also faces a number of drug possession charges.

Police said both suspects were held on bond.

They expected more arrests in the future.
