The elm city loves to highlight its food scene with the always popular restaurant week.
Now, New Haven is celebrating its talented bartenders and mixologists with its very first Cocktail Week.
Twenty-five bars and restaurants are taking part in New Haven’s first-ever Cocktail Week, each offering 4 specialty drinks.
There is even a passport you can get stamped if you want to play along.
“Sitting there, having a cocktail with somebody, it’s a communal experience, it’s about relaxing, but we also want to show its a craft, it’s what we do every day,” said John Brennan, Olives and Oils.
Brennan, who’s the chef and owner at Olives and Oils and Elm City Social says one night, he and a few friends came up with the idea for New Haven’s first-ever cocktail week.
“We were sitting there at the Owl Shop, having a couple of whiskeys and a cigar, talking about cocktails and what we do, and it was sort of a brainchild of all four of us,” Brennan said.
The week-long celebration tipped off Monday with customers tipping back some custom cocktails.
“Now, the Campari is going to make it bitter, sweet, along with that gin and egg white is going to smooth it all out, blend that blood orange,” said Brennan.
Each location will offer four custom drinks, including one for just $8.
In addition to some impressive craft cocktails, there are educational seminars where you can learn about different spirits and mixology.
A portion of the proceeds is going to a local New Haven charity, which supports local childcare providers, and of course, there’s the passport.
“You get some stamps and you can come back later and redeem those for prizes. Pretty fun, all kinds of things from a free cocktail to cocktails and snack, pizza, food, all types of fun things this week,” said Brennan.
New Haven’s Cocktail Week runs through Saturday.
