Firefighters are battling a house fire in Meriden on Sunday evening.

Crews responded to a 2.5-story house fire on Wilcox Ave at about 5 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters said all three levels of the house were burning.

The intensity of the fire prompted firefighters to take a defensive approach and fight the fire from the outside.

Fire officials said the resident exited the building, and neither the occupants of the home nor firefighters were injured.

Crews expect to remain on scene to extinguish hot spots throughout the house.

The Meriden Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
