State police are investigating a deadly car crash on Monday night in Fairfield.
According to troopers, an evading vehicle from a crash involving an off-duty trooper happened beforehand in Stratford around 11:25 p.m.
State police said the driver fled after striking the trooper's personal vehicle.
Trumbull police located the vehicle by exit 46 on the Merritt Parkway, the driver of which had previously driven off at a high rate of speed.
The driver had apparently slammed into a tree near the exit 46 off ramp from the southbound lanes.
The road was closed for an investigation, but reopened at 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
State police said they expect to release more information later in a news release.
