Driver charged in connection with crash that killed Stamford student

Wilson Villa-Cabrera (Stamford Police Dept.)

Stamford police have arrested the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a Stamford high school student in November.

Police said their investigation revealed that the driver, 37-year-old Wilson Villa-Cabrera, was at fault for the crash and he had an adequate line of sight and should have not struck Karina Tinajero-Arreguib.

Karina, 18, was crossing Strawberry Hill Avenue in front of Stamford High School on November 5 when she was struck by Wilson's van. She was rushed to Stamford Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Police said Wilson stayed at the scene and there was no evidence speed or alcohol/drugs were a factor.

Wilson was taken into custody by Stamford officers Saturday morning and charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle. He was being held on a $50,000 bond.
