East Hampton police said Friday they are trying to stop kids from jumping into traffic as part of a game.

Officials said they received numerous complaints of kids doing a range of stunts from biking into traffic to lying in the road.

A dispatch call made by a shaken-up witness illustrates the disturbing experience.

"They're out there right now jumping in front of cars. They yelled at people, 'oh you hit me? I'm going to sue you.' Stuff like that," said the witness.

That is just one of many calls police have received this past week.

The incidents have been reported near a package store on Main Street.

Residents complained that these incidents are becoming common.

East Hampton police chief Sean Cox said they are trying to control the situation,

"We're hoping to get this to a successful resolution before tragedy strikes," said Cox.

Police said it's important for residents to alert police if they see something.

"If we're not getting it in a timely fashion, it hampers our ability to respond in a timely manner," said Cox.

The parents of the suspected teens have been notified, according to police.

Officers are now monitoring places where the suspected teens have been known to hang out.

Police said these recent stunts are illegal.

Attorney Kenneth Barber said if something were to happen, police would look at all factors involving an incident, especially if it were in a 25 mile-per-hour speed zone and if the driver was texting or distracted in any way."All of those factors are going to come into play," said Barber.

Anyone with information is urged to contact East Hampton police.
