East Hartford officials: Police, fire qualified to handle public safety of potential casino

Vacant site in East Hartford (WFSB)

When it comes to handling a casino, East Hartford says it’s police force and fire department are qualified.

The city said it has a 125 officers on its police force, and even more firefighters, and they are all the most qualified for public safety.

City officials have proposed the gaming complex at the site of the long-dormant showcase cinemas property off Silver Lane, near I-84.

The third casino is slated to be built in the Hartford area to compete with the MGM casino being built in Springfield, Mass.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes reopened the search for a new site last month.

They are considering East Windsor, South Windsor, East Hartford, Hartford and Windsor Locks.
