The daughter of the man shot and killed in the driveway of a Bristol home told Eyewitness News that she does not hold any ill-will toward the suspect, who is a family friend.

"He was just a charismatic, lively person. This isn't how he deserved to go," said Nicole Caron, of her late father.

Police responded to reports of a shooting on Friday evening at 240 Woodlawn St to find a victim lying on the ground suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police identified the victim as 63-year-old Bristol resident, Daniel J. Caron.

Caron was transported to Bristol Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested the suspect, 35-year-old, Bristol resident, Chad Couture for first degree manslaughter with a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm.

Nicole Caron, Daniel Caron’s daughter told Eyewitness News that the Caron family was visiting the family residence of Chad Couture on Friday evening at the time of the shooting. Caron said that Couture was cleaning or showing the gun to Caron when it discharged, shooting him singly in the chest.

"They were good friends. I cannot imagine this was anything but an accident," said Nicole Caron.

Caron said she believes the incident was an accident, but told Eyewitness News that she does believe the suspect needs to be punished for his actions.

"I hate to say it, but it is his fault," said Caron. "He wasn't being careful, wasn't being responsible. He needs to do something, maybe serve some time, to atone for what's happened."

The suspect, Couture and Caron have been friends for years, and met through work.

Caron told Eyewitness News that Daniels leaves behind four children and two grandchildren.

Couture was held on a $500,000 bond. Police said the incident remains under investigation.
