Funeral for delivery woman killed to be held Saturday

The Waterbury woman who was shot and killed while delivering Chinese food earlier in the week will be laid to rest Saturday.

59-year-old Helena Vargas was helping deliver orders for Golden Wok Chinese restaurant around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Brass City at an address on Linden Street when they were robbed by a group of four people.

Waterbury police said during the robbery the man with Vargas was assaulted and she was shot once in the neck.

Vargas was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital but ultimately died of her injuries.

Police quickly arrested four suspects in her murder, 19-year-old Anthony Wright and three juveniles.

Vargas funeral will be held at 10 a.m. at Maiorano Funeral Home on Willow Street followed by a burial at All Saints Cemetery.
